FAQ

The surface of metal parts machined thru Turning, Reaming or Boring operations is a succession of “PROJECTIONS or PEAKS” and “INDENDATIONS or VALLEY” when it is microscopically examined.

The ROLLER BURNISHING operation compresses the “PROJECTIONS or PEAKS” into the “INDENDATIONS or VALLEY” thus forming a smooth mirror finished surface.

Both Ferrous and Non-Ferrous materials can be Roller Burnished.

Ferrous materials such as Carbon Steels, Stainless Steels and Cast Iron can be roller burnished. Any ferrous material with hardness less than 28 HRc can be roller burnished.

For materials that are heat treated Upto 65 HRc, Diamond Burnishing Tools can be used.

  • Can achieve very low surface finishes. High Dimensional Consistency / Repeatability.
  • Single Pass Operation. So, Very quick cycle time.
  • Increase in Surface Hardness.
  • Reduces the Re-work and Rejections.
  • Can be used in any spindle driven machines. Either the part should rotate or the tool should rotate. This depends upon the Tool design also. So, This a versatile process.

The above is subject to pre-burnishing input conditions. The results can vary based on the applications.

All Ferrous materials having hardness less than 28HRc can be roller burnished. Non-Ferrous materials can also be burnished.

For part material whose hardness is high ( upto 65 HRc ) can be burnished with Diamond Burnishing Tools.

  • Internal diameter (both Thru & Step Bores )
  • External Diameter (both Plain & Shouldered shafts)
  • Conical/Angle/Taper profile ( both Internal & External)
  • Flat Circular Faces
  • Other special profiles like grooves, concave and convex profiles etc.,

Yes, Roller burnishing tools can be customized based on the application and the machine configuration.

Can be used in any spindle driven machines. Either the part should rotate or the tool should rotate. This depends upon the Tool design also. So, This a versatile process.

Yes, Sufficient Coolant flow is must for effective burnishing results.

Normally, Surface roughness less than 0.2Ra can be easily achieved. But, This is subject to input conditions like, Roughness, Hardness and other factors.

In most of the applications burnishing is a single pass operation.
